Rockpool Bar & Grill, Sydney.

The famous Rockpool Bar & Grill restaurant has been on my ‘to-do’ list for years. Neil Perry is a bit of a legend in Australia, and he has Rockpool restaurants in Sydney, Perth, and Melbourne. Famous for steak and seafood, it’s basically the perfect place for two of my favourite food-types. Thankfully while Sid was in town he was up for checking it out, so we booked a table and I met him after work one Friday for our steak-feast.

We went all out and ordered a fair amount (well, it was Friday – cheat day!), starting with the Four Raw Tastes of The Sea ($35), which consisted of scallop, tuna, kingfish, and seabass sashimi. It was so SO delicious! I think my favourite was the tuna, but all of them were excellent and so fresh!

After the seafood starter, for our mains we chose steaks. I get full quite quickly, and I always like to save some room for dessert, so I had a 250g fillet ($59), and I can’t for the life of me remember which steak Sid had.

We had a side of chips ($15) and a side of mac and cheese ($12) to share alongside our steaks. I feel pretty awful but we ended up leaving most of these as we were so full from the steaks. I hate wasting food, but the steak was a lot more filling than I thought it would be and our eyes were much bigger than our stomachs.

However, what we did try of the chips and mac & cheese was pretty darn good. The chips were light and fluffy, and the mac & cheese was creamy and not too heavy. The steaks, well, they were pure perfection. We asked for medium rare steaks, and although mine was more on the medium side, it was still very tasty and definitely filled my belly.

We had a little break before dessert, and admired the stunning restaurant. For some reason it felt very American; all dark and business-y, very sleek and contemporary with old touches.

Sid was sensible and just had the Vanilla Ice Cream with Valrhona “Ice Magic” and Chocolate Pearls for dessert ($15). I wanted something fruity, and when I saw ‘Catherine’s Pavlova’ ($21) on the menu, obviously I had to try it!!

I have to say I think it did my name proud, I adored the passionfruit with the meringue, and the meringue was literally perfect – crunchy on the outside and nice and chewy and soft on the inside.

We loved our entire meal at Rockpool, and I highly recommend it if you’re in Sydney and just want a good Aussie meal!

I've always wanted to visit, since I've watched Masterchef AU (my fave of all the global series)!
