Exploring an Abandoned Fort & Dickenson Bay, Antigua.

Dickenson Bay is famous for it’s red phone box perched right on the beach. While we were staying at Galley Bay, C and I decided to hire a car again (you can read all about our adventures driving around Antigua in a Jeep here), and head up to Dickenson Bay and see the north part of the island. It was a cloudy and overcast day so wasn’t ideal for hitting the beach, but it turned out to work in our favour as it made for some great shots of an abandoned fort we stumbled across!

We drove from Galley Bay through the main city of St John’s, up to Dickenson Bay. We did a loop around the north part of the island and I took a wrong turn because the map was wrong, and got SO stressed when I realized a police car was following me! I panicked so pulled over, then he pulled over and started walking over to us and I was literally like ‘OMG WHAT HAVE I DONE!?’ Thankfully he grinned and said ‘you look a bit lost…’ and then pointed us in the right direction haha.
We parked up near Dickenson Bay and found a beached boat. All I could think was ‘I’m beached is bro’. C decided to play captain while I was too scared to climb onto it so volunteered to take photos instead.

We then wandered over to Dickenson Bay for photos with the red phone booth on the beach. I’m not sure what it is about red phone booths…they’re just so photogenic! I really should have worn a decent outfit on this day instead of my old beach shorts, it literally would have been the perfect place for outfit photos. This is one of the main reasons why I’m not a fashion blogger, haha!

After a few quick pics we got back in the car and drove down to Fort James, which is an abandoned fort at the entrance to St John’s Harbour.

We then drove down into St John’s and parked up outside St John’s Cathedral. I ran into the little grocery store and grabbed some plantain chips (I’m literally obsessed with them and every time I go to the Caribbean I eat so many bags of them), and then we headed up to the cathedral…to find it was all locked up!

No worries though, I marched us over to a small hut and asked why it was closed very nicely and they said it was being restored, but they would let us take a peek inside. It was beautiful inside, all wood, and so interesting to see how they’re restoring it.
We drove back to the hotel and dropped the car off, and then spent the evening sipping cocktails in the bar and having a delish dinner at Galley Bay. We had such a fun day exploring the north part of Antigua, it was definitely the perfect way to combat the overcast clouds.
Also can we please just take a moment to appreciate how amazing my hair looked on this day? For some reason my hair LOVES sunshine and heat, and I always prefer the way it looks so much when I’m in a hot country and it goes all beachy and wavy.
My trip to Antigua was in partnership with Elite Island Resorts and Hayes and Jarvis, with my accommodation and flights complimentary. This does not effect my opinion in any way and as always I am 100% honest in my reviews. You can book a holiday to Galley Bay in Antigua via Hayes and Jarvis.

I would have freaked out too if I had a police car tailing me! I had no idea about the red phone box on the beach – how cool. Great hair too 🙂

It's so weird seeing a red phone box against such a tropical backdrop. Stunning place though!

I can never resist having a photo in a red phone box whenever I visit London. Like you said, there's just something enticing about them ha.
