A Downton Abbey Evening at The Savile.

If you’ve read this blog for a while you’ll probably know by now that the Savile is my favourite private members club in London. Only men are allowed to be members, but it’s without a doubt the most fun club of all of the clubs, basically anything goes. Last week I went to the Savile for a black tie Downton Abbey dinner and talk, as they’ve filmed quite a few episodes inside the club.
The evening started with a talk from Gareth Neame, who’s the Producer of Downton Abbey and a member of the Savile. I missed most of this as I was running late, but I caught the end where he told us how they transformed the ballroom into a Jazz club for the show. They then showed us a video of the scene, before we moved upstairs to the ballroom for dinner.

I couldn’t decide which dress to wear for this event. I’m struggling quite a bit at the moment, as due to a change in pill my weight has rocketed. In just a coupla months I’ve gained about a stone, and no matter how much exercise I do, how much salad I eat, I just can’t shift it. My arms, lower belly and thighs have ballooned, so I went for the dress that flatter my tummy and hips the most. Apparently it’s completely normal with the pill that I was on due to water retention, so hopefully it should sort itself out within 6 months. I’m just super self-conscious at the moment, it’s really knocked my confidence.

Anyway, so to start with we had terrine, which was delicious!

For mains everyone else had Trout, I’m not great with really ‘fishy’ fish, so I had the veggie option which was Asparagus Risotto. This was tasty, but not the best Risotto I’ve ever had. It tasted a little undercooked and was a bit too hard and crunchy. This photo is really shitty FYI, because I started eating it and forgot to get a photo first. Bad blogger.
I was slightly disappointed with the risotto, as the food at the Savile is usually amazing due to their Michelin starred chef, however he definitely redeemed himself with the dessert! A beautiful and very moreish chocolate and blueberry meringue!
We then had coffee and chocolates, before moving down to the bar where we had late-night drinks with a load of friends who are members at the club. I didn’t get any photos in the bar, so I’ll leave you with a few more of the beautiful ballroom…

It was a really lovely evening, but it’s a shame they didn’t have some music during dinner or after dinner, especially considering the price of the tickets!

Haha I know, usually I hate the 'men only' rules in clubs, but I dunno, the Savile is different, they rock it. I think it's because it's just the tradition, and they love having women in the club, you never feel unwelcome or like you're not supposed to be there. Quite often if I'm there waiting for a friend by myself, if someone sees me sat along they'll instantly come over and ask if I'd like a drink.

Ah nah, the pill controls my periods as I get super bad cramps 🙁 also the idea of the coil kinda freaks me out… haha

      Thank you!

I love Downtown Abbey. Oh, to go back in time and wear Mary Crawley's clothes. And you shouldn't feel self-conscious at all. You look beautiful.

I know, I would love to be in Downton!!

Thank you, I think it's just one of those things where it shocks you to see yourself on the heavier side…

You should NOT feel self-conscious in the slightest, you look stunning as always. Love this dress! I am a huge Downton Abbey fan, so I'm sure I would have been pretty over-excited by this. Shame about that risotto though – a dish that I think is so easy to get right and yet is done badly so often!!

Thank you Polly! Just very strange and slightly horrifying seeing myself the same size I was a few years ago, I've worked so hard to get that weight off so to see it back on is pretty de-motivating 🙁

Definitely, I never understand why so many places do a terrible Risotto! I've only found two decent Risottos in London!

You look gorgeous – don't worry one little bit about your weight!! I'm currently trying to lose my post-France I-ate-too-many-cakes-and-bread weight after last year so know how you feel but you look gorgeous!

Don't you worry about your weight – your arms look fine to me (and I can vouch for them, I've seen them lately) and you look great! When I got off the pill it took a while for my figure to 'normalise' but before you know it it'll come off.

Also – this post reminds me off the time we snooped around the Athaneaum (can't spell haha) library and knocked over that candlestick in the library! Can we do that again, please?! x

What stunning decor the Savile has, though I think that Home House has to be the most fun private members club, their parties are legendary! I didn't realise you were struggling with your weight as you look lovely and slim but I'm also going to step up the exercise/healthy eating now that Summer is really here to stay
