Classic Car Boot Sale, Southbank.

London has some pretty cool events going on every day around the city. The weekends are full of things to do and places to go and see. This weekend was the Classic Car Boot Sale down at the Southbank Centre near Waterloo. As soon as I saw it was going on I messaged Sarah and as a fellow lover of all things vintage, obviously she was up for it. It’s basically a car boot sale…but every car has to be pre-1989, hence it’s a ‘Classic Car Boot Sale’ rather than just your standard car boot.
Thankfully the sun was shining for us, and we queued up and paid our £4 entry to get in. It was absolutely packed with people, many of them in vintage clothing! I’ve been a huge classic car fan since I was fourteen years old and went on holiday to the Deep South of America. We toured ’round in a swanky Chrysler 300c, visiting six of the southern states, and I fell in love with the old classic cars in Memphis and Nashville. The 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz went straight to the top of my car wish list, as did the wish to visit Cuba just to see all the old cars (only two months until I finally go!).

Anyway, Sarah and I spent hours wandering around the boot sale, checking out the old cars and vintage nick-nacks on sale and eating some yummy street food, until our legs gave up after we spent hours dancing with the gang in Archer Street last night.

After looking at all of the cars and car boot stuff, we went up to the food truck area to get some lunch. There was a whole range of choices from jerk chicken to burgers to lobster rolls and everything in between. We opted for hot dogs, they looked incredible, and they had proper crispy onions which you rarely get over here.

We then went and got ice-cream and walked around with them drooling over the candy coloured 1950’s cars. My personal faves were the Cadillac and Mercury, and there was also this lovely mint coloured one that matched my ice-cream!

After we’d looked at all the cars and eaten our lunch we went to the bar for our first Pimms of the season. There was live music playing, including a group of women (above) who sang Glenn Miller tunes to keep everyone entertained.

This little beauty was the highlight of my day. I’d love a red Corvette Sting Ray to drive around the countryside on the weekends…but wouldn’t we all! Maybe one day…

Seriously if you love old cars you need to visit Michigan in the summer months and just drive around Metro Detroit, it's like everyone owns a classic car. In August there's the big Woodward Dream Cruise were everyone drives their classic cars up and down Woodward – which is a really historic street you'll see some incredible gorgeous cars.
