Cantonese in the City at Mr Wong, Sydney.

With Jasiminne in Sydney, I wanted to take her to some of my favourite restaurants. One of those is Mr Wong, a modern Cantonese restaurant near Circular Quay that has been one of Sydney's most popular restaurants since it opened back in 2012.

Mr Wong is part of the Merivale Group, which is a little like D&D in London. They have a whole host of epic restaurants and bars, and I'm a little bit in love with every single on that I've been to so far. As in, most of my monthly salary goes to these restaurants and bars (especially as I live round the corner from three of them).

I met Jasiminne after work on Thursday, and after queuing up for a little while (they only take reservations for groups of six or more), we were seated upstairs. I prefer downstairs as it has more of a trendy warehouse vibe, but you can't really be fussy when a restaurant is as popular as Mr Wong.

We perused the extensive menu, and although it still really irritates me that the dim sum menu is only available at lunch, the rest of the menu is pretty epic. We decided not to go too crazy, I'm trying to be better and order less at restaurants so I don't over-eat and waste food. We chose the steamed dim sum Platter ($35), the fried dim sum platter ($27), the Hiramasa Kingfish ($22), and the Sea scallops (also $22).

The dim sum isn't quite on par with the likes of Hakkasan and Yauatcha in London, but it's still pretty great and definitely the best I've had in Sydney.

The fish was incredible, it tasted so fresh and was exactly what I'd been craving all day!

We decided to go all out on Dessert as it was Jasiminne's last night in Sydney. We shared the rich and moreish Deep fried vanilla ice-cream ($18), and the incredibly refreshing Mango pudding with coconut tapioca, lychee granita and mango pearls ($17). We couldn't finish the ice-cream as it was just far too rich, but the Mango pudding was completely cleared!

The restaurant itself is super cool - very dark and trendy, with dark woods and open brickwork. After dinner we paid up and then headed to The Establishment (a Merivale bar) for a drink in the outside garden area, then walked down to my favourite - The Barber Shop for a cocktail or two.

We had such an amazing meal, and I recommend Mr Wong to anyone in Sydney who loves Cantonese food! It's pricey, but so worth it. Add it to your list and get down there ;)
