Girls Dinner at The Athenaeum Hotel.

The Athenaeum Hotel in Mayfair is one I drive past every time I drive into London. It’s also one I walk past, staring into the windows wondering what type of food they do. I’m not sure why, but the greenery covering the outside of the hotel always makes me think that the food must be delicious and one-of-a-kind. I have strange thoughts…

Last night I went there with an old friend of mine. We wanted somewhere different and a little special, and I thought ‘ah-ha, the perfect time to try it out!’, so off we trotted/shimmied/strutted.

Let’s just say, I was right about my prediction that the food would be delicious.

The restaurant itself was had a very boutique feel, and was dreadfully stylish. From the lighting to the curved booths to the beautiful silver shell effect walls. The staff were incredibly helpful, polite, efficient, and service in general was just fantastic, I guess it helped that the restaurant was quiet.

*warning – photo heavy post*

We began with a selection of fresh breads, and then for starter we had fig, wrapped in goats cheese and parma ham, and finished with a coulis. I am a huge fig fan, and this combination literally just melted in my mouth – it was a little taste of heaven.

Then came the main course. Lamb with the most beautifully creamy, soft mashed potato you will ever taste, on a bed of garlic leaves and mushrooms.

And finally, the pièce de résistance; dessert. Vanilla creme brulee with two perfect strawberries and shortbread that not only dissolved on my tongue, but also had no extra sugar coating it (YES! Finally – shortbread with no extra sugar!) and the most wonderful after-taste of vanilla bean that made me want an entire container of the stuff to scoff whenever I fancied.

All gone!

In conclusion. You have to go here.
Average food spend with drinks is around £45.
You can book a table here. And follow them on twitter here.
After dinner we decided to be camera whores in the powder room, and after a couple of glasses of wine we somehow decided that flannels make good hats/props…

*sigh* Oh dear. Special.

My dress is just a lil number from Mango. You can find it here.

For some reason I always seem to think it’s a good idea to pose on top of tables.
